Complex numbers can be considered as a natural extension of the real number system. One possible description is geometrical, and operations such as addition can be described in a manner very similar to that for vectors. Similarly multiplication can be described geometrically in terms of rotations and dilations.
Complex numbers have many applications in science and engineering and are fundamental to the understanding of fractals and chaos.
SECONDARY: all quadratic equations have solutions, Argand diagrams, polar form.
SIXTH FORM: plus exponential and logarithmic forms, Euler’s formulae, complex powers.
