PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN FRANCE

A variety of workshops have been held in primary schools in France, in French. Topics have included: Anamorphic art, Soap films and bubbles and Rainbows.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN PROVENCE

Students aged between 13 and 15 attended workshops presented under the auspices of the British council, in nine different schools in the Provence Region of France. The topic for the workshops was anamorphic art and they were presented in English. The intention of these activities is to use mathematics as a vehicle for improving English amongst the students.

Two of the sessions were reported in Var Matin, the local regional daily newspaper, receiving very good reviews in both reports. Students’ comments included ‘It’s good to mix maths, English and art’ and ‘we were given some vocabulary before the workshops and this was sufficient for me to hear and to understand what they said’.
