In this workshop we use soap films to describe optimisation problems, with surface tension and minimum surface properties to predict the shape of bubbles. There will be the opportunity to make bubbles and to investigate soap films in a variety of configurations.
PRIMARY: many practical demonstrations and hands-on experiences.
SECONDARY: plus numerical search for minimum route problem, excess pressure in bubble.
SIXTH FORM: plus calculus techniques for minimal route problems, the Laplace-Young equation.
